According to
2020 U.S. Census Bureau, out of about 11 million single parent families with children under the age of 18, eighty percent were headed by single mothers. Elvy, a single mom, has made sacrifices in her life to ensure that her daughter gets the care and attention she deserves, going as far as taking a smaller paycheck. Here’s her story:
Elvy and Her Daughter
“I am a single mom. Before the job that I have now, I had a different job that didn't really allow me to spend time with my daughter. Because my daughter is an autistic child, I realized that I needed to spend more time with her, sit down with her therapist, and just be with her more often, and my previous job didn't allow me to do that. I would clock in around 8:00am and I was supposed to clock out at 4:00pm, but I would end up getting home when she was already put to bed. That’s when I switched to a job that allowed me to work from home and organize my schedule a little bit better. Now I get to spend more time with her. It's just a little world with me and her.
When I switched to this job, it allowed me to spend more time with her and focus a little bit more on her. But it did give me a very big pay cut. It kind of balances out because I am getting better health benefits than I was before, but I had to step back a little bit on the spending.”
How EarnIn Helps
EarnIn has really bailed me out in terms of gas. For work, I do need to travel using my car, and there are times when gas is low, funds are low. It's just an easier, faster way to access my funds so I'm able to purchase gas.
Financial Goal
“After I had my divorce, we separated everything. I was the primary card holder but I didn't realize that he was still using my account. It turned into a very big dispute in which the credit card companies were after me and we had to prove that it wasn't me making the transactions. I just decided to close everything out for the time being until everything gets a little bit better.
My main focus is trying to fix my credit and build it back up again. It wasn't always perfect, but it was never really below 650 so I am trying to rebuild that. This year, after I rebuild my credit score, I’m aiming to buy a house or an apartment for my kid and I.”
